Pineapple skin tea originated in my home country, Jamaica, and it is an incredibly nutritious drink that is the perfect way to allow this sweet fruit to be zero waste!
What is Pineapple Skin Tea?
As mentioned before, this pineapple skin tea is extremely popular in Jamaica, a nation known for its herbal remedies and teas.
Pineapple skin is loaded with bromelain, which is highly anti-inflammatory and may aid in digestion. That makes this drink a gut healthy super food if you ask me!
Served hot or chilled, pineapple skin tea is a great drink to incorporate in your weekly regimen. This fruit is also extremely high in vitamin c and drinking the tea of its skin may also help to boost the body’s immunity.
I love this drink because it is sweet, but also comes with so many added health benefits that store bought juice simply can’t match up.
I found these gorgeous pink pineapples at the store, but this recipe is typically made with regular pineapples.
As a Jamaican woman who practices Caribbean herbal traditions, this recipe is so dear to my heart because it is so highly nutritious while offering a refreshing and naturally sweet taste.

How to make Pineapple Skin Tea
Step One:
Thoroughly wash and disinfect (I used vinegar) your pineapple skin, this is extremely important!
Now, slice the skin off your pineapple and core the middle hard part.
Step Two:
Place the skins and the core into a pot along with a cinnamon stick, ginger, and water. Let this reach a boil, then immediately turn it off. Allow this to sit for the next 1 hour or until it completely cools.
Step Three:
Once the pineapple skin tea has cooled, strain it and sweeten to taste with either agave or cane sugar.
Feel free to serve this hot or chilled with ice, it’s delicious either way!
Once the tea has properly seeped and cooled, the liquid should be a brilliant yellow. Sweeten to taste with agave (or sugar). Serve chilled and enjoy!
How to store Pineapple Skin Tea:
Pineapple skin tea can store in the fridge to 3-5 days. If you want to make it last longer, consider freezing in ice cubes!
