This cherry Garcia matcha latte perfectly matches the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor!

Made using a homemade cherry hazelnut milk and cooking down some dark sweet cherries to make the sweetest syrup compote. This matcha latte just might ruin all cafe matchas for you- it’s just that good.

What is a Cherry Garcia?

If you ate Ben & Jerry’s ice cream growing up like me, you’d be well versed on a cherry Garcia. It’s a phenomenal flavor that features dark Cherrys and chocolate bites sprinkled throughout the ice cream. It’s flavourful, fruit, and decadent, perfection might I say.

The chocolate-y flavor of this drink comes from the milk. I used a mixed nut mixture that has hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds, and walnuts. The touch of hazelnuts, gives the milk a rich, chocolate flavory that pairs SO well with the cherries.

If you don’t have a Costco membership or can’t find this specific combo, feel free to blend almond milk with a dash of cacao so you can still have that signature chocolate cherry Garcia touch.

What You’ll Need- Cherry Garcia Matcha Latte

  • Hazelnut, almond, pistachio Nut Mix– I get this nut mix from Costco and it’s perfect! Or you can just use regular almond milk, hazelnut milk would probably be better
  • Frozen Cherries- You can also use fresh but frozen were cheaper and more available to me!
  • Medjool Dates- To naturally sweeten the cherry milk, but you can sub for agave
  • Water
  • Cane Sugar
  • Agave
  • Vanilla
  • Matcha

How to make Cherry Garcia Matcha Latte

Step One:

Either soak your nuts overnight, or soak them in hot water, covered in a bowl for at least 15 minutes.

Combine your soaked nuts, water, vanilla, cherries and medjool dates in a blender and blender for the next 60 seconds until smooth and strain. Set aside.

Step Two:

To make the cherry syrup, combine the sugar, frozen cherries, agave, and water in a sauce pot. On low-medium heat, allow this to simmer and cook down for the nectarines 7 minutes.

Once the cherries are cooked and soft, turn off the heat and add the vanilla. Allow this to cook down completely. Once cooled, strain. I highly suggest saving the stewed cherries, they are DELICIOUS!

Step Three:

Soak your chasen (matcha whisk) in hot water for a few minutes to soften the bristles. Measure out 1.5 teaspoons of matcha powder and sift into your chawan.

Whisk with 2 tablespoons of warm water (never boiling!) for the next 60 seconds until a micro foam layer appears.

Step Four:

To assemble your cherry Garcia matcha latte, spoon out some of the syrup, then place ice in your cup.

Slowly pour the milk in, hitting the ice cubes so you don’t mess up the layers. Now, pour over the matcha shot and enjoy your cherry Garcia matcha latte!

This drink was so good. The hazelnut adds such a pleasant hint of chocolate flavor. Will be doing this again!
