I always big up Rastafari for their involvement in a healthier Jamaica. They are the creators of the Ital diet and the delicious vegan meals that can be found throughout the island and in our culture.
As a vegan Jamaican who hasn’t eaten meat for 8 years (and mi duh miss it either), my plate is always filled with life and flavor.

Here are some foods I eat as a vegan Jamaican. Click the buttons to access the full printable recipes!
Curry Lentils

The perfect weeknight dinner that takes less than 35 minutes to prep. These curry lentils are packed with flavor and umami and are absolutely delicious!
Bulgar Porridge

One of my all time favorite Jamaican porridges! This recipe combines nutrient dense bulgar wheat berries with the classic Jamaican porridge method and tastes oh so good.
Ital Okra Stew (w/coconut milk)

A simple okra stew cooked down in coconut milk and combined with classic Jamaican spices. This is great for those who aren’t fans of okra as the method I use prevents the okra from becoming slimy!
Gungo Peas and Rice

By far the BEST rice and peas to date! I prefer gungo peas because, well they’re actually peas (I’m looking at you red kidney beans) and compliment the rice and coconut milk so well.
Meatless Stew Peas

Mi half seh more? Stew peas were one of my comfort meals as a likkle pickney but mi dash wet pork long time! These ital stew peas are high protein and just as delicious!
