What is Vegan Haitian Spaghetti?
Haitian Spaghetti is a fun Caribbean twist on the Italian classic. It doesn’t have a thick gravy sauce like traditional spaghetti and typically contains cut up hot dogs or slices sausage opposed to meat balls. Although it is commonly eaten for breakfast, feel free to enjoy this for lunch or dinner as well!
The only difference that makes Haitian Spaghetti vegan is the type of hot dog/ sausage used. For this recipe we’ll be using a soy free vegan seitan sausage by Field Roast. I would not recommended leaving it out as it is what ties the dish together and makes it a true Haitian Spaghetti.

How to make Vegan Haitian Spaghetti
Step One:
Cook your spaghetti according to package instructions. Chop your red/ green bell peppers and onion into medium small bites. Grate your garlic and leave the thyme and scotch bonnet whole. Slice your plant based sausage into diagonal strips.
Step Two:
Heat a pan of oil and carefully fry the epis. Once that is fragrant (about 2 minutes) add in the dry seasoning and sauté or another minute. Don’t let any of these burn! Now add in the vegan sausage and allow to cook for about 3-5 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Step Three:
Add the rest of the fresh herbs/ veggies (scotch bonnet, garlic, thyme, onion, bell peppers), and stir until they have cooked for about 2 – 5 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for about 1-2 minutes.
Step Four:
Combine the water and stir to evenly incorporate the ingredients. Allow to bubble for about 3-5 minutes before adding in the spaghetti. Salt to taste and enjoy!
How to store Vegan Haitian Spaghetti
This delicious pasta dish can store up in the fridge for up to one week making it great for meal prep! Its easy to make, kid friendly, and a great opportunity to explore Haitian culture through food. If you wish to store longer, place in the freezer for 2-3 weeks.
