What is Plantain?
Although they may look alike, plantain greatly differs from banana. Originating in Southeast Asia and extremely popular in the Caribbean/Africa, plantain is a very starchy fruit that is mostly prepared like a vegetable.
While bananas can be enjoyed as they are, plantain almost always must be cooked. It is said that plantain can be consumed raw, but it might cause stomach issues due to the large amount of resistant starch present.

Amongst the Caribbean islands, plantain is typically served ripe; sliced, fried, and served alongside a savory food dish. In Jamaica, we also have plantain porridge for breakfast and a lesser known (but tasty) plantain fritters.
