Is blogging dying as social media and AI rise to heights of never before? This is a question I’ve been asking myself lately as the world wide web and social media’s algorithms change at rapid paces.

I’ve been a full time blogger and content creator for the past 2 years and learned so much during this time. There have been highs and lows, ups and downs, and now it’s definitely time for me to share my reports of 2025. Let’s get into the details babes.

To answer the question shortly, no; blogging is to dying. However, the full/long answer is not that simple. Blogging isn’t dying but it IS changing at a rapid pace. Let’s talk about how this career is going to look in 2026 and furthermore.

What is blogging?

Contrary to popular belief, blogging as a career is not having an online diary to share with your family friends. It’s so much cooler than that! The act of blogging for money is essentially posting articles to a self hosted website monetized by either ads/sponsored posts, or both.

What I love about blogging is that it can be done completely faceless. All of the content provided is via website and/or newsletter making it perfect for shy people. As long as they write quality content they never have to show face! The main part of being a successful blogger is mastering SEO (search engine optimization) and being a damn good writer.

Of course there is so much more to blogging than can be mentioned in a few sentences. It takes blood, sweat, and tears before a single dollar is even earned. But once the proper foundation has been set up, it is one of the best ways to make passive income!

The difference between blogging and influencing

A lot of people confuse blogging with influencing or think they are inherently the same thing. As mentioned in the previous section, they’re actually super different! Influencing focuses more on video creation on Instagram, YouTube, or Tik Tok. Money mostly comes from brand collaborations or if an influencer were to create and sell a product.

With blogging, you have to completely captivate your audience with strictly words and the occasional picture, but social media allows you to capture attention through videos, highly edited photos, and podcasts.

With blogging, a creator can take months off and still make money as long as people are clicking on their website. On the contrary, influencers’ income are rarely passive and must constantly make videos and partner with brands to keep money flow consistent.

Is Blogging Dying? The rise of AI

Here’s the thing we’ve all been wondering. AI, chat gpt, and all other artificial intelligence have done a lot of damage to the world, but especially the blogging arena.

It once used to be a career that had almost guaranteed success as long as you followed all the rules. Now, many bloggers who have been in the game forever are reporting lower Google rankings, and AI summarises are constantly stealing information from independent bloggers.

The way people receive information is changing

It’s just like what the title says babes. I myself love some brainrot, but it is completely frying our brains and attention spans. Grown adults can barely keep up with a 20 second video before feeling the urge to scroll. No tea or shade, it’s just the sad truth.

This most definitely impacts blogging head on because 90% of blogging information is words. Nowadays people are using social media (specifically Tik Tok) for their main research sources.

Want to know how to grow your hair longer and faster? Tik Tok or Youtube. Need a travel guide for your 3 week Bali trip? Tik Tok. Not many people are going to blogs anymore for the very thing blogs were created for. People used to go to blogs for everything but are now quickly turning to social media for that same information.

Can I tell you a secret? There’s actually a way to keeping your healthy and alive. To keep it floating above water during this age of fast information is to adapt. Keep your information digestible and adjust your blog to the world of social media. Let’s talk about it!

Social media is now a necessity

Many bloggers, including myself, used to preach that as long as you had a solid blog strategy, social media would not be necessary. However in 2026 and onwards, it is almost a necessity to have social media to be a successful blogger.

When I first started my blog a few years ago, I struggled for months to get people to my site. Once I started sharing recipes Instagram, my monthly views exploded! Now my blog is also on Tik Tok, Threads, and Youtube and is able to gather views from various sources.

Remember we’re not on social media to be influencers! The main goal is to get more eyes on you blog. What’s the point in having a viral post with millions of views if only 10 people go to your site? The health of your blog should always be at the forefront of every social media post.

Is Blogging dead? How to successfully blog in 2026

No, blogging is not dead at all! However moving onward, it is important to note that the ways of blogging have indeed changed. As things change, you’ve gotta change with them, keep up or get left behind!

I will still always and forever talk about the importance of adjusting and changing as blogging changes. Also, I will always value blogging over influencing. Having a self hosted, self OWNED website trumps influencing social media any way. But hate to break it to you babes, we need both in this day and age.

Enough with the negative talk, let’s talk about how we’re going to save blogging in 2026!

Relate social media posts to blog article

This is one of the best things I’ve been doing for my blog all year and the years prior. One of the best, and most efficient ways I’ve been getting people to my website is by relating blog articles to social media posts.

For example, as a food blogger I am constant making Instagram/Tik Tok posts with reels or carol pictures of my food. If anyone wants the recipes they can click the link in bio to go to the recipe (bringing eyes back to my website. This has been one of my best blogging strategies thats kept my website going strong for 3 years now!

AI can’t give real stories- especially with travel!

In the rapid age of AI junk, BE YOURESELF! AI mimics but it can’t create real people with real stories no matter how hard it tries. Be unique, genuine, and personable with your audience. Be vulnerable and share stories to make your viewers feel like they can relate to you.

For example, if you’re creating a blog post on how to travel throughout Thailand, talk about your experience as a Black woman and how you did your hair. If writing another post about a traditional Jamaican porridge recipe, write a section about how your grandmother used to make it every Saturday morning, you get the drill!

Make your posts shareable

This is 2026 girl! You gotta make it easy for people to find your blog, and make it even easier for people to share your posts. Just as easy as it is to repost a video on Tik Tok? Yeah you want your blog to have that same accessibility.

Make sure there are buttons all over your site and on every posts that make it easy to share your articles to Pinterest, Facebook, and messages.

Continue to focus on your newsletter

Social Media is for visibility but newsletters are for community. My newsletter community loves when I send recipes straight to their email, as well as new products!

I am personally subscribed to several newsletters of creators I love dearly and I always that their newsletters are much more personal. Grab your laptop, personable, and see the people that run to your site form the connection you created!

Use Ai for assistance

As much as I feel so uncomy with robots, AI, this that and the third its inavoidable. It’s become inevitable to avoid at this point. Instead of getting in a digital fist fight with a digital consciousness, try to work with it.

One of the ways I use AI alongside blogging is to provide social media posts, potential recipes ideas, and even blog articles! I even like to put in previous posts to see how I can improve them and do better for the future.
