What you’ll Need- Homemade Rosemary Hair Oil

Fresh or dried rosemary- Both are fine, I love the aesthetic and visual sight of fresh rosemary. However, the oil will last significantly less time if using fresh herb. If you want to use this oil for more than one month, be sure to use dried rosemary. 3 fresh stems with leaves are needed for this DIY Oil. 1-2 tablespoons will be required if using dried.

Grape-seed Oil– This naturally alkaline oil is great for hair and skin. It may help to provide a sheen to hair without weighing it down as it is extremely light. It also adds strength and may even prevent split ends! 2 cups of grape-seed oil will be used.

That’s really all you need for this incredibly simple and cost effective hair growth oil recipe! Of course, many other oils and ingredients can be added. However, in order to keep this recipe budget friendly and under 10 dollars, grape-seed oil and rosemary will be the main ingredients.

How to make homemade rosemary hair oil

  • Step One: If using fresh rosemary, make sure it is completely clean and dry if previously washed.
  • Step 2: Crush the rosemary leaves & stem to activate the beautiful smell.
  • Step 3: Combine 3 stem/leaves and 2 cups of grape-seed oil into a small pot and keep on the lowest heat setting for 10-15 minutes while constantly stirring. The oil must never bubble over or simmer. If this happens, many nutrients will be lost.
  • Step 4: Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to sit for 1-2 hours. The longer the better and more infused, I personally did mine overnight.

No Heat Method

Some people prefer to make their oil a more natural way free from heat which is totally fine.. Just keep in mind, patience is required for this method as it may take up to one month to be ready.

Step One: Place the rosemary leaves and grape-seed oil into an airtight mason jar and store in a dry cool place, preferably a pantry. Allow to seep for 2-4 weeks but if you want the aroma more infused, 4 weeks is better.

Step Two: After time has passed, strain the leaves form the oil once with a metal strainer and twice with a cheese cloth or nut milk bag. Store into a mason jar or oil dropper and enjoy!

Tips for homemade rosemary hair oil

If using fresh rosemary herb, this oil can only last from 2-6 weeks. However, if using dried rosemary herb this oil may last about 2 months in a dry cool place away from direct sunlight. If stored in the refrigerator, the homemade rosemary hair oil may store from 4-6 months. Be sure to always use caution and check the smell and color if using an older oil.
