Why Start a Blog?- Make money blogging

If you’re tired of your soul sucking 9-5 and feel like you’re losing sight of your purpose in life, it might be time to try something new. I recognized I wanted more out of life when I was being poorly treated in the work force, over worked, and under-paid.

Working for someone else and clocking in and out everyday until I reached 65 was a no go for me. I knew there were different creative ways to make money online, but had no clue how. That was until I stumbled across the incredible world of blogging.

Starting a blog has given me financial freedom/literacy I never thought I would’ve been able to achieve! I’ve learned so much about entrepreneurship and business and have been able to make so much more money than the jobs I was working before.

Being able to work from home, contribute more to my savings, and travel around the world were all possible after becoming a full time blogger. I’ve always been a creative since a child so being able to create content as my work makes me feel extremely fulfilled.

Since I started my blog, my life has positively changed for the better. I feel like I have finally found my purpose and have been able to help thousands of people around the world.

My content revolves around health and Jamaican living and I always get messages from people saying my info has helped them. This seriously is one of the best parts of my work. It provides such a deep feeling that no other job has been able to give me.

So, why start a blog? Reasoning for everyone may be different as we all have different viewings of the world. But blogging personally brought me increased finances and a sense of peace.

Just keep in mind Rome wasn’t built in a day. Starting a blog takes time and a LOT of work. But I am living proof that work is SO worth it!

Blogging or Influencing?

There are many different forms of content creation out there that can get you paid. Vloggers who share long form content, influencers on Tik Tok and Instagram, and bloggers with a website all share common ground of content creation.

However, in my opinion, the career with the most longevity is having a blog. Why you may ask? For starters, even if you have 5 million followers on social media, you don’t own that platform. That’s pretty risky to put your entire earnings on one site. Hence why I always encourage content creators to be on various social sites.

Bloggers own their platform by having a self hosted site. Having your own site means your content is copyrighted on a platform that YOU own.

Learn the difference between blogging and influencing as a career.

Becoming a Full Time Blogger

The journey to becoming a full time blogger was NOT easy. As a matter of fact, it took countless sleepless nights and enough tears to fill a river.

You may be thinking, Tiffany- why the hell would I want that?! Because at the end of the day, its worth it.

Every single post I’ve written, recipe I’ve developed and post I’ve uploaded has all paid off. Now I work for myself, can take a week off without anyone’s approval, and can work in my PJs. Not to mention the financial freedom is more than any of my past jobs have paid me.

Have I convinced you to join the business of blogging and start a blog yet? Let’s go ahead and dive deep into the unique ways of how to make money blogging.

Website ads- Make Money Blogging

Having ads on your website is probably the number way to make money blogging. It is typically the main source for bloggers and the smartest in my opinion. Website ads are completely passive and make you money regardless if whether or not you produce new content. Basically, you’re making money in your sleep!

The top ad companies that pay the most are Mediavine and Raptive. This should be every blogger’s goal to get into from day one. Because these ad companies pay generously, they’re exclusive and a bit hard to get into.

Raptive requires 100,000 monthly page views (times a page is refreshed). Mediavine needs 50,000 sessions (people on your site). Although it takes a bit of time to be accepted into these programs, they pay so much more than Google Ads and other companies.

Having ads on your blog is one of the best ways to make money blogging because it keeps content free for your viewers and provides you with passive income!

Ebooks and Courses

This section is where soooo many bloggers pull in hecka racks. Depending on what your niche is, creating an ebook or course can earn bloggers a lot of money.

Get creative and do some research on your niche and audience. Food bloggers can make an ebook with exclusive recipes not found on their site. Travel bloggers can write a guide on how to travel Thailand on a budget. Bloggers who teach others how to make money online can set up a course. The methods for ebooks and courses are endless, especially if you have an engaged audience!

Affiliate income/Commissions- Make Money Blogging

This has to be one of my all time FAVE ways to make money blogging! One of the most popular affiliates for bloggers is Amazon Associates. To get into this program, you have to have a certain amount of followers or website page views. Once you’re accepted, you have to sell 3 items within 180 days.

While many bloggers earn a lot of money from Amazon, they pay extremely low, about 2%-5% commissions. I love partnering directly with different brands I use and trust to give my audience a discount and receive commissions.

If you partner with a brand directly, you can make up to 20% commission from products which is AMAZING. I love love LOVE commissions because you make money in your sleep. As long as the content is live, people are viewing and buying. Passive income baby!

Monetize Newsletter

So many content creators sleep on having a newsletter and I think they’re making such a huge mistake! While social media is great, your newsletter subscribers are there for you and only you. My newsletter crew is so personal and I always have people replying to my emails, it makes me so happy!

There are many ways to monetize a newsletter and start to make more money blogging. One method I use is to promote exclusive sales of my juicing ebooks to my subscribers.

Another way to monetise a newsletter is by including affiliate links to related products throughout the email. For example, if you’re a food blogger sending an blast for smoothie recipes, include an affiliate link to your favorite blender!

Bloggers can have ad space in their newsletters and promote sponsored content. Lots of companies are willing to pay a pretty penny to be promoted in a newsletter with a high click/open rate and an engaged audience.

One of the best ways to monetize a newsletter is by having a paid subscription service newsletter. For example, as a food blogger I can create a separate newsletter of $7.99 per month for weekly meal prep including exclusive recipes. Just 150 members brings in over $1,000 per month and nearly $15k per year. That sounds like a plan to me!

Paid Subscriptions/Memberships- Make Money Blogging

One way a blogger can have paid memberships/subscriptions is by giving special ad-free website access. As mentioned before, one of the best ways to make money blogging is by having ads on your website.

However, some people aren’t a fan of pop-up ads when they’re trying to read a recipe or scrolling through a travel packing list. To solve this, many bloggers offer a monthly subscription for ad free content!

This is genius because the blogger benefits from extra income and the user gets content without ads. For example, if you run a popular food blog and charge $5 per month for ad free content and 500 users sign up, that’s an $2.5k extra per month. Boo yah!!

Brand deals/Sponsorships

This area can bring in a lot of money. And when I say a lot, I mean a LOT of money! Essentially, what you’re doing is creating an ad for a company and promoting their product.

Bloggers will typically feature a sponsorship either in an article on their website, on a newsletter, or social media. Many bloggers do not prioritize social media, but brand deals are where having flexibility comes in handy.

A lot of people think you have to have a huge following to make good money from sponsorships. However, that’s just not the truth. While a high amount of followers is great, brands typically look at views and engagement.

So even if you have a smaller amount of social media followers, having an engaged audience can allow you to charge big bucks for sponsorships!

Consultations- Make Money Blogging

Bloggers, influencers, and content creators can all host paid consultations if they have knowledge in specific areas. As a full time food blogger, I’ve had many people read out to me and ask if I host consultations on meal prepping, vegan tips, or weight loss/gain. Since I started blogging about blogging (see what I did there?), many people have even asked to have private consultations on how to grow their social media.

If you have a certain expertise on a topic and an audience (big or small) consider hosting consultations!

Selling products

While this method takes more capital and energy, its another great way to make money blogging. Building an audience and selling products related to your niche or brand is honestly the way to go long term.

If there is a blogger who specializes in matcha recipes, selling ceremonial grade matcha will most likely do well with their audience. Or a fashion blogger who writes about sustainable fashion can easily sell 100% cotton clothes on their website!

Freelance writing- Make Money Blogging

Long before I started my blog, I wrote budget travel articles for a huge travel company. This was a steady source of income for an entire year and taught me so much about SEO. There are many different ways to freelance as a blogger, it can genuinely bring in a lot of income for beginner bloggers.

Websites such as Upwork look for blog writers/content creators on different topics ranging from fashion to travel. If you’re starting out, freelance writing is a great way to make money blogging.
