Unfortunately, the act of mindlessly scrolling on social media has impacted us all. It’s so easy to load up tik tok whenever we feel bored or scroll on instagram during our 5 minute break.
But if you’re here, you’re probably trying to look for healthier ways to pass the time. I got you sis.
Here are some of my favorite mindful and cozy hobbies to keep me from doom scrolling.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes, I think it’s important to express how toxic brain rot can be.
I used to joke with my friends all the time about brain rot and how it’s top tier content.
While Gen Z humor is unmatched, having the attention span of a squirrel is not cute.
Constantly exposing your brain to social media where topics switch every 15 seconds can seriously impact our comprehension and attention skills. I myself have noticed a huge, and embarrassing, fact that while I was scrolling the most, I could barely even sit and listen to a long form video before I’m itching to pick a new one.

I mean, they aren’t talking about a nation wide literacy crisis for nothing.
These cozy hobbies are chic, low energy, and provide just the right amount of whimsy that can help to contribute to a better attention span and a better you.
Y2k nostalgia gaming

Genuinely one of my FAVORITE cozy hobbies to do that prevents me from doom scrolling.
Playing Pokemon on my pink gameboy advance, loading up animal crossing on my 3ds, checking in on my dogz on my ds lite. All elite hobbies.
Not only is y2k nostalgia gaming one of the best cozy hobbies to replace doomscrolling, it is SO healing to my inner child.
I’ve even started a hobby of visiting game stores across the state and collecting old ds and gameboy games. It’s a fun way to pass time at home, and is also a cute solo date to get you out the house too!

Finding my old consoles and redecorating them has also brought me so much joy. Sticker-ing can easily be listed as another hobby that brings immense joy too!
I have definitely noticed a difference in my attention span when I started to replace doomscrolling with gaming!
I’m able to set my eyes on a goal and accomplish it. So much different than mindlessly scrolling to a new topic every 30 seconds.

Say you don’t like gaming like it’s 2011, no problem. You can easily pick up a more modern console like a Nintendo switch. I have one too and it’s pretty freaking dope.
I ordered a used switch lite on eBay for $150 bucks, got a few on sale games from Walmart and GameStop, and have been living my best life since!
Word search puzzles- Cozy hobbies to keep from doom-scrolling

One of the most mindful and pleasant ways to pass the time. I never go anywhere without my little word search puzzle book, okayyyyy?
No but seriously, I always bring a small word search puzzle with me whenever I’m leaving the house!
I’m dedicated to bringing down my screen time, and word search puzzles are one of the best things that keep me from doom scrolling.
I love going to dollar tree and stocking up too! They have small print, large print, big books, small books, red fish, blue fish you get the drill.

At first, I thought I would feel like a total grandma doing these puzzles. Then, I genuinely stopped caring and started to embrace my inner grandma.
I love going to sleep early and starting my days off with tea so what’s wrong if I add a little for search puzzle too?!
Adult coloring

I remember when Adult coloring books had their first show around 2014 when I was only in middle school and definitely not an adult.
Back then I didn’t have a care in the world and wasn’t interested in the extremely intricate pages that were offered.
They were promoted as stress relieving but they absolutely induced me with hella stress just looking at them!
Nowadays, adult colouring books are a lot more cutesy and relaxed, with way less intense pages to follow.
Grab some cute, stress reliving adult coloring books here!
Reading books- Cozy hobbies to keep from doom-scrolling

Ahhhhh yes, the good old book, you must have figured that reading was going to pop up on the list eventually.
For real though, reading is easily one of the best hobbies that has kept me from doom scrolling. I recently got into Afro-fantasy and let me tell you, I have been missing out!
There are countless genres to get into, with thousands of free libraries across the country; this hobby can easily be free.99!
If you’re like me and also have a e-reader, you can even download free library books to your kindle!

Simply get the libby app, log into your library account, and choose from thousands of book options.
This has saved my life when I’m travelling and don’t want to carry heavy books with me.
Oh, and be sure to decorate and personalize your kindle so that it matches your style too. Lots of girlies on tik tok even use clear cases and re-decorate every few months.
You can even take it a step further and create a good reads account to review your favorite books or join a book club for community!
Creating Pinterest boards- Cozy hobbies to keep from doom-scrolling

I don’t know about you, but scrolling on Pinterest is one of my favorite things to do. You might be saying well Tiff, isn’t that just doomscrolling?
Friend, when I tell you that scrolling on Pinterest is so different than other social media platforms, you need to believe me.
When I’m on pinterest, I have an actual goal whereas Tik tok and Ig are typically just time passers for me.
I go to Pinterest to create a visual manifestation board of what I want my life to look like.
Long and healthy hair goals, travelling round the world, and self care advice are just a few boards I’ve created for myself.

I truly love and adore pinterest because I’m not distracted by influencers or in competition with other people. I’m simply surrounded around art that is my style, and aesthetic content that makes me feel so happy.
I’ve even started to post my own pictures that fit my aesthetic so that I can hopefully add to other’s people inspirations as well.
Pinterest is undeniably a top tier cozy hobby that I do to keep me from doomscrolling.
Journaling

I used to only associate journaling with therapy and writing out my deepest darkest feelings.
Naturally, that kind of stopped me from journaling more often because I was always boo-hoo sobbing every time I closed my journal.
Now, I’ve recently got into the habit of casual journaling.
This is basically just talking to myself about my day, what I’m excited for, and even just practice my handwriting! I got the cutest colorful erasable pens and now I love to journal!
Whichever way you want to take up journaling, it’s a Tiffany approved mindful and cozy hobby that helps me to stop doom scrolling.
Re -watching your favorite tv shows- Cozy hobbies to keep from doom-scrolling

I recently started rewatching Regular Show and I have to say my life quality has gone up. They don’t make tv shows the same anymore (I sound like such a boomer but my point stands).
I love this hobby because I often times put on something unserious (especially If I’ve had a long or difficult day) and just tget to unwind.
This is perfect to play int he background while I’m gaming or crocheting. Whether you wanna rewatch Spongebob, Kim Possible, or your favorite Disney movies, let your imagination run wild.
It’s your life (and your internet), try rewatching your favorite shows from your childhood and see how it can light up your life!

Crochet
Cool girls crochet, like for real. Imagine if you crocheted for the same amount of hours as your screen time. By now you could have made a super cute scarf or blanket!
In the beginning, it’s a bit hard to get into. If anyone knows that it’s me (the first time I tried it I gave up and cried).
But once you get into the hang of it, you are truly able to create something so amazing and beautiful!
Jig-saw puzzles- Cozy hobbies to keep from doom-scrolling
Puzzles are truly that girl! There are so many stores you can purchase affordable puzzles at, and they’re such an interactive hobby that keeps your mind sharp and focused.
This is obviously a much less portable hobby as if you move it, you’ll mess up your progress. However, it’s extremely fun to do at home by yourself or with others!
Choose from different puzzles here!
Lego building
There are so many cute and cozy intricate adult style lego bulds you can choose! If you loved lego building as a child, or even if you didn’t, its super fun as an adult too!
Grab some super cute and whimsical lego builds!
Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking is genuinely one of the cutest, most precious cozy hobies you can take up.
It costs just a few cents to print out your photos from Walgreens or CVS, and you can get a cheap scrapbook for less than $10.
If you’re on an extreme budget, you can even get a notebook from the dollar store!
Grab some stickers, markers, some tape, and create analog evidence of your best memories.
